On March 14th, 2018, Senators Dianne Feinstein (D-CA), Richard Blumenthal (D-CT), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-NY), Tom Udall (D-NM), and Edward Markey (D-MA) sent a letter to Senators John Thune (R-SD) and Gary Peters (D-MI) outlining their concerns about S. 1885, the “American Vision for Safer Transportation through Advancement of Revolutionary Technologies (AV START) Act. The letter stresses the need for the development of safety standards in conjunction with self driving technologies. It also addresses their concerns about public safety and privacy.
